The Case of the Multiplying Nurses

This case is proof that “the best know the best” and that one good “new hire” experience leads to another!

Janice Paul was referred to PHSA by a friend. Janice then referredPatti, who referred Sue, who referred Tina. Janice, Patti, and Sue referred Sylvia… Janice referred Whitney, then Michelle… an entire network of quality RNs were recruited to PHSA’s BC Cancer Agency through Talent Detectives!

When you meet Janice, it’s easy to see how she has become a billboard for nurse recruitment for the BCCA Abbotsford and Fraser Valley Centres. With over 20 years nursing experience when she joined BCCA, she was ready for the challenging and rewarding shift to oncology nursing, and says her experience as a new hire was a good one: “I’m so happy I made the move… my orientation process was excellent.”

The passion and energy she possesses is obvious, and soon she was referring new team members, ultimately inspiring her colleagues to do the same! Says Janice, “my friends were all part of this… we told a friend who told another friend who told the next friend!”

Soon, the chain of referrals resulted in 8 new hires!

When we asked her what she did with her referral rewards, she shared that she and her talent detectives colleagues decided to choose Milestones gift certificates so they could all go out for dinner together.

At the end of the day, though, for Janice, it’s not about referrals or gift certificates; it’s about putting patients first. “Knowing that I have made a difference in their life and their families’ lives is what matters."
